Ghost-White Eyes

OK, so a little bit of pseudo-fanart for a change. Hyuuga Suzuki, my OC from the Naruto fanfic that I'm working on. Before anyone starts, NO. She is NOT Neji's daughter from the future or something cliche like that. Suzuki actually has a very interesting backstory/history. However, I have no plans to reveal that HERE. If you want to know that, you'll have to read the fanfic. Anyway, the title for the piece is the same as the title of the fanfic; Ghost-White Eyes. Despite the fact that Suzuki is my OC, the fic is actually NOT OC-centric. While I certainly enjoy fanfics that add OC elements, I don't like it when authors do what I refer to as "Naruto - Another Story", which is basically translated as "Naruto, but if _________ were the main character". My problem with this sort of fic is A - I want to read NARUTO fanfiction, not OC fanfiction and B - In those sorts of fanfics, it is irritatingly common for the author to make their OC super-powerful or somehow better then all the regular characters. They give them a super kekei-genkai that makes Byakugan or Sharingan look like a tea party, or they give them some sort of jutsu-memorizing thing and make them like Orochimaru, or some other way of making it so that their character is the star AND central to all things. Anyway, because of my distaste for fanfiction that focuses more on the OC then the actual characters it's based on, I try very hard NOT to write fiction that calls under those stipulations, even when I'm writing fiction that centers somewhat on an OC. Hence, GWE, while certainly focusing a lot on Suzuki, focuses more on the regular Naruto characters as well as the impact that Suzuki's appearance has on their lives.

Anyway.....this is actually my 3rd or 4th concept for Suzuki. Originally in my mind, she was a lot girlier, with short hair in various forms and a must more ornamental and decorated outfit. But she just refused to come out on the paper. Finally I just gave up and started random sketching. When it turned into Suzuki, I realized that the original concepts that I had come up with just really didn't fit with her personality. Sure, she certainly isn't a tomboy in the traditional sense, but neither is she femenine like Sakura or Ino. Suzuki is actually very like Neji in a lot of ways. She has the same sort of hatred that he posesses towards the Head family, the same somewhat cold and collected demeanor, the same dedication to her training. Therefore, despite the fact that she is definitely a girl and doesn't try to HIDE that fact, neither is she the sort who would deliberately accentuate her girlish traits either. I kept a few overall themes from the original concept though. The colour of her hair, kimonoish-styled shirt, short skirt, and fishnet legwarmers are all the same, though the design of the shirt and skirt themselves are altered a bit.

The prologue and first chapter of GWE is currently available on fanfiction.net, under the pen-name of Tasogare-Taichou. I'm working on the 2nd chapter. It will likely be a rather long fic, as I wish to not only explore Suzuki's life and the impact that her presense makes on the Konoha Genin, but also my own opinions about several mysteries and such of the actual series (what will happen to Sasuke, what is the real reason why Itachi killed his clan, what relation is Naruto to Yondaime/why is Naruto the child who was chosen to bear the Kyuubi, etc.) It will eventually include romantic pairings as well, mostly of the canon pairings (as those are the ones that I prefer) though that won't be for a while. My Naruto timeline that I use for fics and such is a tad different then the canon one. Because I choose not to discount and ignore the filler, I choose to place the filler as set in the 6 months or so immediately after the Sasuke-retrieval arc, THEN it is followed by the 2.5yr timeskip. That places the total timeskip (in my opinion/timeline) as 3 years.
